Accepted Solution

Deleting Your Sent File History

I see that a lot of people in the community would like the option to delete items in the Sent File History of your YouSendIt account. I also think this would be a valuable tool, and thought I ought to add this to the suggestion board. If you'd like to have the option to delete your Sent File history, please give this post Kudos by clicking the thumbs up icon.

Re: Deleting Your Sent File History

Amen, Kyle!  I use and love yousendit, have been for quite some time.  For that reason, I have tons of sent items in my list which I simply don't need anymore - so it's causing me to have to navigate through tons of pages which really hinders my whole experience.

Re: Deleting Your Sent File History

Only 1 kudo?! C'mon! I know more than one person would like to see this changed. If I could change this on my own, I would, but what we really need is enough people voting on this so that our product development team knows this is a high priority issue for our users. Click the "Kudos" thumbs up icon in the original if you want this feature.

Tigerpride - Do you use your YouSendIt online storage folders? I know they won't resolve this issue, but they are a good place to keep frequently sent files, or files you wish to back up. Perhaps they'll make your workflow a little easier for the time being. If you want to read more about what you can do with your online storage, here's some more info:

Re: Deleting Your Sent File History

Totally agree!

I've exceeeded my storage limit, and want to delete old items from my sent items (as suggested by an automated message from yousendit) ... unfortuntately I don't have the option to do so ... that's just nuts!

Why should I have to buy more storage?

I can't seem to send out all of a sudden. No one answering the phone. Are you telling me that I can't delete folders and must upgrade? This is crazy. There are other options out there.

Re: Deleting Your Sent File History

I'm confused by what people want to delete.  The files that take up space are the files set to Never Expire.  Other sent files don't take up storage space I don't think.

Also, I'm not sure it's the same as Delete - but I can expire any sent file on demand.  From the Overviews page -> View all Sent Files click on the drop down next to the expiration date and set to Expire Now.

screenshot.jpg

Once expired, the file is definitely not taking up space and can no longer be accessed.

Correct me if this isn't what people are trying to do.

We have so many in the sent folder, it takes FOREVER to open.  Please allow deletion.  We can always go to the reports and get info on stuff that happened before.  Primax

That is not YSI's fault. Your browser is probably set to delete cookies each time you exit the browser. Change your browser settings to accept cookies.

Even once you set your files to delete or expire (which frees up the space), the records (date sent, email address, # of items, and notes) remain.  Is it possible to clear these past records?

Re: Deleting Your Sent File History

They really dropped the ball by changing this option.

I've just received the auotmated email telling me i'm full up and need to delete some files.

HOW THE HELL DO I DO THAT???!!!

There are hardly any in my long list that have an expiry date set to 'Never', so even though they say 'expired' they must still be taking up storage and i need to delete them like i used to be able to

.

YSI need to sort this out or risk losing customers in droves.

Re: Deleting Your Sent File History

Sounds like we could use some work on the tracking and Overviews pages.  There's another request to keep longer history on downloads.  What other tracking features would you like to see?  Please add them as new suggestions so people can vote on their usefulness by responding or giving Kudo's.

Re: Deleting Your Sent File History

Are you crazy? Of course we should have no problem in delieting expired or deleted listing. I keep getting rejected sends because your system shows my allottments taken, when I have everything listed as either deleted or expired.

Your setup and response to questions has a lot to be desired.... I'm searching for alternatives due to lack of responsiveness. You even sent me an email addressed to another person... bizarre and un-consumer oriented behaviour.

Re: Deleting Your Sent File History

[ Edited ]

Hi, I’m Nicole a product manager with YouSendIt and I’m looking at ways we can improve this part of the application.  In reviewing your comments and feedback, it sounds like there are a lot of great ideas to improve the Sent File History on the Overview Tab.

We are looking into this and I was hoping you can help me confirm/clarify your needs...my understanding from the posts is that the Community would like to reduce the number of items in their Sent File History as a lot of you send often and the history section has become unmanageable.  In addition, it sounds like the Community would be interested in the history to be automatically cleaned up for them as well as have the ability to manual delete items from their history.  Would love to get confirmation that my understanding is correct (or maybe incorrect) and additional clarity.  Please offer a kudos if this understanding is correct and you would like to see this change.  Also, please reply if you have more information to assist with my clarity.

Re: Deleting Your Sent File History

[ Edited ]

Hi Nicole,

I can't speak for everyone, but I as an example I have many files that have been deleted or expired, I have to trawl through all those to locate files that are "live" - I would like the option to permanently delete those dead files and others, though whether an automatic clean up would be good I'm not sure, and in such a case how would a manual clean be feasible if it were already done automatically?

Maybe the option to have to set files to either automatically delete or manual delete would serve both camps?

Just my thoughts.

Best wishes,

Jeff

PS In the "old days" when a file was deleted or expired it never appeared in the list again and that suited me just fine, so it can't be too onerous a programming task to arrange this.

Deleting Sent Recently history

All I want to do is delete my "Sent Recently" history on the Overview page. I don't think I'm asking for a lot here. Me, my boss and an assistant use the account and once in a while one of us uses it for personal use (which is fine) but we should have the right to not have everyone see who and what you're sending and when you do.

I did delete it from the Folders "Saved" and it still appears in the Sent Recently history. That shouldn't happen.

Thanks,

Bea

Pssst, Bea,

I don't think YouSendIt is going to create features that help you use the service in a way that violates the T's and C's.  Buck up and get a multi-user account.   http://www.yousendit.com/compare-plans  :smileyhappy:

YSI have a forum, they ask customers for their opinions and suggestions, people give their suggestions then ..... YSI DO NOTHING!

AS per my earlier posting, any business that doesn't give customers what they want is ultimately only heading in the one direction (clue, it isn't up).

Yes, I replied to Nicole over 3 weeks ago and I've not heard a thing since. If this is being worked on then it's useful if that is communicated because when all you receive is a wall of silence then in the absence of any information one can only assume that nothing is happening (and given this thread was started over 6 months ago the turnaround isn't exactly proceeding at lightning speed ...  and this issue only ever occurred in the first place because of an "improvement" to the site that no-one ever requested!)

Re: Deleting Your Sent File History

Spoiler
It states above that this has been solved.  However, I still do not see a way to delete the received and sent history from my overview page.  If I do not want that information saved in my account, I should have the right to delete it.  The files are expired.  I am not worried about taking up space.  Just a confidentiality issue.  Did anyone else find a solution to this?

Re: Deleting Your Sent File History

Since I have always checked off to save a copy of the file I'm sending to my saved folder, am I correct that if you give us the option to delete this sent item from the sent history list that it will no longer exist in my saved folder either?  That is what I would like to happen.  I want to be able to delete saved files from my folder once I know they are no longer necessary since the less out in the "cloud" the less likely my files will be hacked.

Re: Deleting Your Sent File History

Hi Nicole I received this email from a radio station that I send files to and they are making this request of me and I don't know how to do this. I looked in my folders list but there are no folders listed. So where are these sent files stored after expiration and how do I get rid of them if they are in cyberspace somewhere. This is important and I need an answer. Thank you, I love the ease with which I can send programs but this is a mystery to me.

Email is as follows:

Is it possible for you to delete or remove the files from 2012? We really aren't supposed to keep more than five programs (a week's or a month's worth) on our server as it makes everything run slower when all the programs keep their programs on it. It would be greatly appreciated. Otherwise I'd have to go in and delete programs and I am not sure if any of them have been archived with you. I really don't want to delete an original copy.

"GIVING KUDOS" IS A PLACEBO WHEN **YOUR*** CUSTOMERS HAVE MADE REASONABLE REQUEST TO HAVE THE SIMPLE ABILITY TO DEETE OLD, UNNEED FLES!! AND MONTHS AND MONTHS OF PLATITUDES LATER, THE ISSUE IS NOT SOLVED. AS FR MYSELF I WILL SIMPLY NOT CONTINUE TUSING THIS SERVICE AFTER MY 14-DAY TRIAL HAS EXPIRED.

Re: Deleting Your Sent File History

Just to be clear, the ability to delete (Expire) old files has always been a part of the product functionality - at least for our premium subscribers.

This thread is discussing how to best manage the history under the Sent Files tracking section.  The specific request is to be able to "delete" old entries, but we're looking at the tracking interface much more broadly and will be rolling out extensive improvements over the course of the year.

Re: Deleting Your Sent File History

This is getting so frustrating that I am now considering changing to a different provider. With 54 pages of old messages, most deleted or expired I want to be able to see only the active ones instead of trawling through all the pages. I have asked for support already a few months ago and nothing seems to be happening. This is really a probelm for us and needs to be sorted otherwise we will look at going elswehere when we renew. Thanks.

Re: Deleting Your Sent File History

With privacy such a BIG issue, today, why is YouSendIt dragging out the Delete History thing?  This is a simple request:  let your users delete their history.  EVERY other program does this.  There are more posts to YOU on this topic than any other.  Clue in.  Whether internal or external, corporations have a need to control information.

Re: Deleting Your Sent File History

[ Edited ]

after reading this "just to be clear" post, (postd by YSI) and the associated "how to" that follows, to me it seems like we can delete recieved file history but sadly still cannot delete sent history.

this seems like a simple request.

can we get someone involved from the development team to get this sorted asap, or provide an update on the roll out mentioned in the informative post that states quote: "but we're looking at the tracking interface much more broadly and will be rolling out extensive improvements over the course of the year".

forget the "but we're looking at" & sort the one simple request. it should only take your dev half a day if they know what they are doing.

i have been using yousend it for a few years and have been hoping for some basic functionality to be improved... & still waiting.

Re: Deleting Your Sent File History

Mark0428,

You can delete sent files - but not the sent file meta data.  This means the recipients and the filenames will stick around, but you have complete control over how long the files get saved.  I doubt well ever make it possible to delete the meta data, but we should have a better way to organize this so that you can find what you're looking for easily, and not have to sort through clutter.
