Increasing the Maximum File Size to More Than 2gb

We receive a lot of feedback about our 2gb file size limit, and it's apparent that customers could use the ability to send files larger than 2gb. So here it is in the Suggestions Board - it'd be great to be able to send files larger than 2gb. If you agree, please give this comment Kudos by clicking the Thumbs Up icon.

It seems some customers with a free account want more of something for nothing. If you want more than 2GB upgrade your account and start paying for the ability to send files larger than 2GB.

Re: Increasing the Maximum File Size to More Than 2gb

The maximim file size of 2GB currently applies to everyone. I pay for my account and constantly run into problems trying to send video content files to my work team.

I think you are confusing this with the file storage .

Yes of course, I need to send files on a regular basis that are more than 2 gig.  Please consider increasing, I am having to break up videos into parts for my clients.

Re: Increasing the Maximum File Size to More Than 2gb

It's getting harder to justify the expense of YouSendIt.  The cost is not the issue; $99 is very reasonable, but the 2GIG max. file size  is very "limiting" in todays business environment.  For the same $99 per year I opened a DropBox account and now have accumulated over 150GIG of storage space with unlimited file size (not to exceed 150 GIG).  I like the convenience of the Microsoft Outlook attachment for smaller files so I'll keep the account for now, but will likely drop if YouSendIt keeps the limiting 2GIG limit.

Re: Increasing the Maximum File Size to More Than 2gb

i'm in the same boat. i use yousendit for media transfers to clients and i have to split some of them up into four or more files just to get each one to fit under 2gb. i'm seriously considering giving up and just going back to sending discs for all the bother this causes on the other end of explaining why the files have to be split up. i'm not sure why there's a maximum file size for paying users. it's not like we can't just upload unlimited quantities of files, anyway, so why force us to split them up?

Re: Increasing the Maximum File Size to More Than 2gb

I know.  I just tried sending the video split and spent all that time and got a message back to put it altogether, uploading to their site which was fine but that was after I sent it to through YOUSENDIT.  I would like 5 gigs for a paying customer.  I can edit stuff out and shorten my videos but that takes more work and sometimes the client would rather have it all.  I am trying to work on taking less unnecessary video and shorten clips where there is not a subject present.  I like to show street signs, landmarks and everything so no one can say I wasn't there.

Re: Increasing the Maximum File Size to More Than KGB

I am a paying customer of YouSendIt and have been for years.  I routinely send large folders of files and the 2 gig limit has me looking for other solutions even though I feel a certain loyalty to YouSendIt because I am comfortable with the interface, etc.  I have colleagues that are having the same problems with this.  These days 2 gig is very limiting especially if you are paying for this.  Please please raise it to at least 5 gig or I will be forced to move on.

Re: Increasing the Maximum File Size to More Than 2gb

I am a paying yousendit customer.  I also work in media, and 2GB for video files is very small.  PLEASE give us an option to upgrade to send larger files.  If it is a bandwidth issue that you are concerned about, I am totally fine with paying for the ability to send larger file sizes.  Agree with the previous post that dropbox is a very appealing alternative that lets you send much larger files.

Re: Increasing the Maximum File Size to More Than 2gb

I can send any file size I like via ftp (FileZilla) so either raise the limit or provide an interface for programs like FileZilla. Having paid for the unlimited storage option I am extremely disappointed that the file size restriction was/has not been lifted. I get that your servers are inundated with uploads every day, but as we all are aware this is not going to slow down anytime soon, so time upgrade your systems to allow for more/larger traffic.

larger than 2 gig

i also have a drop box account and there is no 2 gig limitation. So why is there in Yousendit? I manage a video archives which runs to 15T or so, and i need a service through which I can send files from this and to this. The 2 gig limitation is rather tiny in today's info environment.

Re: Increasing the Maximum File Size to More Than 2gb

Greetings,

I would love to be able to receive unlimited file sizes in MyDropbox on YouSendIt.

Currently I am able to push more than our 2GB limit in the megasite.  MyDropbox is within our regular YouSendIt account so I am unable to receive files larger than the 2GB.

It would be great to be able to receive unlimited sizes as well.

Thanks
Mark

Files size

Just as I predicted years ago...files keep getting larger!  Computers get smaller...files get larger.  Hmmm?...No, I don't want you to increase the file size limit!  And hurry up!

Hmmm...wait....no...scratch that.

Yes!  Yes, I DO want you to increase the file size limit.  That way, when I have a file that is larger than 2 GB...I can send it.  That is the point of all this, isn't it?  Sending stuff?  For now, I can simply break the file into 200 pieces and email it!

No, wait...hold on!

For now, I can send it with my FREE Dropbox.com account!  I have tested it already and it works!  See, I got a free upgrade to 5.25GB by beta testing the new camera uploader, about 6 months ago.  I can send over 2GB thats for sure!

Re: Increasing the Maximum File Size to More Than 2gb

Let me put it to you this way, if you DON'T increase your file size limit, I will be FORCED to go to another site, like www.sendthisfile.com that WILL allow larger file sizes.

I'm a long-time, happy and paying customer of Yousendit - but if you don't change your policy, I won't be for much longer.

I hate that we can only send 2 gb files.  I need LARGER, I deal with alot of video, and this just is not working for me.  I have been looking into media express they offer 10 gb and 4 gb file sizes.  You send it, raise the file size, or people like me will have to go to another file sending business.

Your upload size used to be a lot greater than 2gb. This is incredibly restrictive and I wished I'd never paid for it. Why have you shrunk it - especially when the "Cloud" market is getting so competitive?

Re: Increasing the Maximum File Size to More Than 2gb

I suppose I am in the same boat as so many.  I am a loyal fan of yousendit, but I have written to you good people for several years about lifting the 2 GB limit on sending and receiving files, as I knew that eventually, I would be getting film files to which to score that would be over 2 GB, and that I would be sending WAV files that would be over 2 GB.  Your response has always been "we're working on it".

But, time is rapidly approaching when I will need to send and receive files that are bigger than 2 GB, as my career expands into larger projects.  Recently, I sent a WAV file that was almost 2 GB (my music file was actually larger than the film file).  And, the filmmakers have had to consistently reduce the quality of their film or jump through other hoops to get me their film files.  I will in no way break up my WAV files, as it would make the work harder for my clients, and I don't make work harder for my clients.

I'm afraid that unless the 2 GB limit is released soon, I will have to move on.  No hard feelings.  I will simply reach a point where I cannot do my work via yousendit.

I've just spent a long time zipping photograph files into small enough units to get under the 2 GB limit, and it's time that I could have spent doing others things and EARNING. It looks as if I am subsidising your unwillingness to raise the limit - although I have to say that you did send one file for me that was a bit over 2 GB!

Having FTP at work is possible only when one has some place called workplace and happens to find investment in the necessary network infrastructure for sharing purpose, either by themselves or by an Administrative entity in case of a third-party setup.

Such convenience is, to a large extent, possible in Multi-National Corporations or in a medium and large scale businesses. Having said so, such setups too require some sort of external agency that helps them share data across geographies since not all transfers can happen within the physical limitation of a controlled environment called workplace.

There are quite a large number of independent workers, freelancers and such other professionals who are not under the helpful umbrella of an organizational setup. To such people, the only practically viable solution is to go online for their digital media sharing needs.

In summary, there can be any number use case scenarios where such file limits can be stifling given the proliferation of HD media content, that promises to increase exponentially, all around us. If this reasoning fails to convince the skeptic then nothing can convince such people for or against any aspect, since their mind is made up already.

Hello GuidoM,

Looks like you are trying to add a file to your YouSendIt cloud space and with the account type you have you get 2GB total.  If you are close to that and this file is taking you over that amount it will give you that prompt. If you would like more space you can upgrade anytime by clicking the upgrade link in your account.  Our Pro account has 5GB total and our Pro Plus is unlimited!

Hi HollyD! Due to limitations in web-transfer technology, there wasn't a way to upload files larger than 2GB via web browesers in the past. We are currently working on a feature that will allow users to send files larger than 2GB, and we hope to make this available sometime this year. Please stay tuned!

Re: File larger than 2GB

I need to share files larger than 2GB.  Your answer stating Web Technology is the problem seems like techno-babble.  Versions of IE before IE9 could not transfer files larger than 2GB.  Today IE9 can and does as well as Mozilla and Chrome.  I can routinely transfer 8GB files from other sources.   Perhaps the problem is YOUR implementation of "Web Technology".  Time to click that old "Windows Update" tab on your servers.  I have an unlimited account and I want to use it without limitations.  Otherwise I will find a cloud storage vendor without your limitations.

Re: Increasing the Maximum File Size to More Than 2gb

I am. I was a premium user of yousendit for 1 year until recently.  I am also a pro account user of dropbox which I really adore.  I do love the service and experience of yousendit. However the limitation of 2gb per file is hampering the transfering of big chunk of files and videos to my clients and editors. Thus i switched to wetransferplus which can accomodate 5gb per transfer.

I hope that yousendit can provide a great solution for this need so I can switch back.

Re: Increasing the Maximum File Size to More Than 2gb

Well, YouSendIt, you started this post a while back, and you now have a number of responses.  If these people who need the 2 GB limit removed have taken the time to search out this post and have responded, think of the many who have not responded but need this done.

Your interface and your dropbox are very easy to understand and use.  You really shouldn't have any competition.  But, I'm afraid you will start losing customers if you do not address the issue of this 2 GB limit (sending and dropbox).  And...address it as in "yesterday".

At the moment, I'm doing everything to stay under 2 GB, but as a film score composer, the files that I am starting to receive (e.g., AVI and MOV) from filmmakers are growing.  And, if it is a feature film, the hoops the filmmaker has to jump through to get it under 2 GB, as happened in 2011 and 2012, is not something that every filmmaker is willing to do.  When that starts to be a problem and impacts my income, then I will have no choice but to move on to something or someone else other than YouSendIt.

I wish you all the best in coming up with a solution...and I hope it is very soon, as I have been asking for it for several years now.  I am in no way trying to be disrespectful, but it is important that you understand the issues that I am dealing with.  Thank you.

Re: Increasing the Maximum File Size to More Than 2gb

I am unable to get some of my files under the 2gb limit so I stopped my subscription before the 2 wk free period was up.....however the robots at Usendit found ways to drag it out till the free period expired and charged me with a months' payment. I still have not received confirmation that my subscription has been cancelled. I am resigned to live with the one payment as a lost cause, but if I get billed again I will be contacting Visa, Paypal, and the other payment companies.

Amazing how I didn't get any personal attention ntil I quit my subscription. Rather sleazy I think. I have a new account at Livedrive with unlimited file size, and less money per month.

  Very disappointed customer.

What - a trial?

Thought I would give this site a try and was vastly disappointed. I tried sending one file of 4GB and now I continually receive notifications that I have exceeded my file limit. I certainly understand free enterprise (since I practiced it for 30 years in business and now teach at the collegiate level) but gee whiz, guys! One shot and I need to upgrade for $15/month? No deal. PCWorld gave a good review. Mine is a 1-star out of 4.
