Tech Tip Tuesday: Sending Large Attachments with Yahoo! Mail

If you’re a Yahoo! User, you can now use your YouSendIt account in conjunction with Yahoo! Mail to send large files with the Attach Large Files application! As a free Lite user, you can send attachments up to 100MB in size, and premium account users can send files up to 2GB in size! For this Tech Tip Tuesday post, we’ll walk through how to attach large files using your Yahoo! Mail account.

Using the Attach Large Files Application

  • First, log into your Yahoo! Mail account.

  • In the left-hand column of the page, you will see a list of Applications you can use in conjunction with your Yahoo! Mail account. Click Attach Large Files.

  • Next, read over the Application Information, and click OK to proceed.

  • You will have the option to Verify recipient identity for your recipients. By selecting this option, your recipient will have to log into a YouSendIt account created with the email address you sent a file to. When you are ready to upload your file(s), click Select Files.

  • Select which files you want to upload (you can select multiple files by holding the Ctrl button). Please note that the maximum attachment size depends on what subscription plan you are on. If you are a free Lite user, you can send an attachment up to 100MB in size.

  • Once you’ve selected the files you wish to upload, you will see a list of additional sending options you can set at the bottom of the upload window. Some of these options will be available for premium subscriptions only; clicking options unavailable to your account type will prompt you with the option to upgrade your account. If you wish to remove any files from being uploaded, click the red X next to the corresponding file name. Once you are ready to upload your files, click Upload and Compose Email.

  • Once your files are uploaded,  a link for each file you uploaded will appear in the body of an otherwise blank email message. Here, you can specify who you are going to send your files to, along with an email message, just as you would normally compose one.

When you are done, simply click Send, just as you normally would sending email. And you’re done!

If you have any questions or thoughts, please feel free to post them in this thread. Thanks!

Re: Tech Tip Tuesday: Sending Large Attachments with Yahoo! Mail

My attach large files is simply not working. The "free" box to click to verify recipients won't let me check it or add my recipients. I am able to select files, however, the "upload and compose email" option is not working. I'm VERY, VERY, VERY frustrated. Please help!!

I'm trying to use ths for the first time with Yahoo mail and it won't run; it just keeps loading and loading after I hit the dropdown arrow in the e-mail to send large attachments.
