When you share a folder, all sub folders get the same sharing access as the parent. When you add a new sub-folder below a shared folder, it inherits the share access set for the parent.
a. You cannot set sharing options for a sub folder of a shared folder because it would then be inconsistent with its parent.
b. You cannot set sharing options on any parent of a shared folder.
Top Level Shared Folder
Top Level Shared Folder is the folder that the owner shares with other users. It is the folder that the invitations are sent for.
Move Action
Owner
As the owner, if you move a private folder into the top level shared folder, it inherits the share properties from parent.
As the owner, if you move a sub-folder out of a top level shared folder, it becomes a private and the sharees can no longer access that sub-folder. If you move it to Home or a private folder it remains private, if you move it into a different shared folder, it will inherit the permissions of its new parent.
Sharee
As a sharee, if you move the top level shared folder to your private folder, it remains shared. You still remain on the sharee list of the owner.
As a sharee, if you move a sub-folder out of a top level shared folder, then that folder disappears for everyone on the share list including the owner.
Delete Action
Sharee
As a sharee, if you delete the top level shared folder, your share relationship with the owner is broken and you are removed from the share list. The owner and other sharees continue to see the primary folder:
However, if you delete a sub-folder of the top level shared folder, then that sub-folder will get deleted for all the users of the shared folder.
As a sharee, if you delete a file from the shared folder, the file will get deleted for all the users of the shared folder.
